As a teacher, I am always on the go--either teaching my students are running to make copies.
One of the keys to a healthy snack and lunch is to make sure it is high in protein. Protein is what keeps us full and energized so that we can make it through the day. I definitely notice a difference when I eat a breakfast that is high in protein and when I eat one that wouldn't be so healthy (....doughnuts???...). When I eat a breakfast that is high in protein, I don't get as hungry and I have the energy to make it to lunch.
For breakfast I usually have boiled eggs and bacon, a small breakfast sandwich, or on those mornings when I am running late I will have a protein shake. My favorite shakes are the Premier Protein brand. I have tried so many shakes, and these are the best tasting ones. I love that they each have around 30 grams of protein!
I eat breakfast around 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning, and we don't have lunch until 1:00pm. So most days I need a small snack to get me through until lunch. I love quick and easy snacks that I can eat between class periods. Here are a few of them:
These are all things that I can throw into my lunch bag in the morning and are quick to eat. Just like my breakfast, I want my snacks to be high in protein so that I stay full until lunch.
What about lunch? What do I eat for lunch? I don't like heavy lunches. They usually make me sleepy, and I can't have that when I still have a class to teach after lunch. Usually I take leftovers from dinner the night before or a sandwich. Another go to is a big salad filled with yummy vegetables and some grilled chicken.
It is important for teachers to stay healthy, so that we can be at the top of our game for our students. Part of that is eating right and exercising!
